I never liked spiders, specially the bigger ones. Without having good reasons, they scared and repelled me. Still, they are very useful insects. This day I was lucky enough to go at a friend of mine's house to take pictures of his tarantulas, like I called them (real name in french is mygale). I wanted to practice with my new macro lens on live creature. The man who owned thoses spiders told us about their nutrients and different habits. Of course, it's all on the internet, but it's so much more interesting when someone teaches us about their pets. His interest in tarantulas started at the college. He showed us the old skins they leave behind after moulting. He kept them in a jar. Guess what? It was super sweet! You could also see vertical appendages (called chelicerae). He also informed us about the different races of tarantula. He had three, that of Mexico, Brazil and Chile. A truly enriching experience! I still don't have the courage to take one, since he didn't recommend it unless the spider is used to it. On the other hand, I find them pretty and cute now. It just goes to show that you just have to be open-minded! Happy Halloween everyone!
